African Fashion International (AFI) recently announced that two nights of the newly revitalized AFI Cape Town Fashion Week will take place at the stellar Salt River Film Studios. On the 23rd and 24th of March, the industrial-chic space will host some of the continent’s best fashion designers. AFI is celebrated for pushing creative boundaries, and this year’s Cape Town Fashion Week will showcase AFI’s unique aesthetic to fashion in a truly exceptional style. Art and fashion unite for a weeklong festival of African culture, creativity and killer couture.
The theme for this year is #IamAfrica. AFI’s calling summed upon one concise hashtag to celebrate exceptional African talent on a global stage. Honoured with the inaugural Franca Sozzani Fashion 4 Development Award in recognition of her efforts in empowering African designers, AFI Executive Chairman; Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe is fearlessly committed to helping African fashion shine.
Bold and vibrant, AFI’s colorfully curated line-up of designers celebrates every diverse corner of the continent. Morocco’s Salima Abdel-Wahab brings her eclectic North African textures to be shown alongside the afro-futuristic South African patterning of Maxhosa by Laduma. Adele Dejak whose jewelry range is inspired by her Kenyan homeland is showing her collection, while world-renowned Adama Paris shows off all that West Africa has to offer with a collection that celebrates urban Senegal.
