African Fashion International‘s (AFI), Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week (MBFW) starts on Thursday and we’re all about it on the blog this week. From daily outfit inspo on our Facebook and Twitter feeds to Must-Haves and designers to watch online, we’ve got you covered. We’ll be all eyes and ears at the new, über-cool venue, Mall of Africa from 17-19 August.
This season’s theme is #RootedinSyle – a celebration of style and African individuality. The theme will be driven by the Xperience AFI lounge where insta-famous celebs and their pals can explore their creativity in style. The designer schedule is stellar this year, with super-high expectations for Gavin Rajah, Marianne Fassler and David Thlale’s collections. Who we’re really excited about are these five designers below, who have managed to sweep us off our feet before we even knew who they were!
Orapeleng Modutle Style Avenue: Impeccable tailoring and delicate craftsmanship are two ways of describing the magic you’ll see as it sashays down the runway. Our first interaction with this brand was during the last MBFWJ and we instantly fell in love. We can’t wait to see what the collection brings this season.
Stefania Morland: Stefania’s collections are always rich in texture. Her keen eye for detail is one of a kind and is translated into all her pieces. We love her use of muted tones caressed by high-pigment details, and use of fabrics that accentuate the femininity of the brand.
Adama Paris: A strong colour aesthetic and solid garment construction is Adama Paris‘ signature. Deeply rooted in tradition, the brand does not shy away from experimenting with bold fabrics and heavy textured accents.
Beach Cult: We absolutely love a good resort collection and we’re so looking forward to Joanna Hedley’s Beach Cult collection. We love this brand for its clever texture play and fusion of well constructed, delicate fabrics. We’re just grateful Summer is around the corner and hopefully, the collection will be available to purchase ASAP!
Scalo by Sello Medupe: The last collection we saw from Medupe was monochromatic heaven. His collection was replete with excellent pattern construction and well-tailored pieces, accented with textured details. Medupe‘s collections have a knack for accentuating the body in all the right places.
