In 2014 established designers, Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia left de la Renta to establish their own label Monse. I’m not sure what all the inside deets were, but I know that when Peter Copping left Oscar de la Renta in 2016, Kim and Garcia came to the rescue.
On day five of New York Fashion Week Oscar de la Renta presented a collection worthy of legendary status. The show combined Monse and de la Renta’s designs, which some felt was a rather risky decision. Sure, Monse’s designs were contemporary and spoke to a wide audience, and on the flip side de la Renta’s collection was traditional and classic. The contrast worked and I liked it. The show has been described as wonderfully whimsical and a princess’ dream-come-true by some writers and I agree. Here are the 10 moments that sweeped me off my feet.
