In South Africa, the 1st of September is considered the beginning of Spring. We know it’s not really Spring, considering the fact that equinox is only on the 22nd. Nonetheless, we still get super excited about night markets, sale racks, pool parties and duh, Summer fashion. Here is a list of events you simply cannot miss this Spring and a guide to what trends you can be incorporating in the weeks to come. Bring out the chilled Chardonnay, it’s time to enjoy the sun!
Where To Go:
Featured Event – South African Fashion Week (SAFW)
One of the busiest times on the South African fashion calendar. Five days of shows with some of South Africa’s top designers. Hyde Park Corner has been the venue since the Spring/Summer collections in April and has become a wonderful home for SAFW. We will be covering as many shows as we can and you don’t have to miss out – you can buy tickets! Visit SAFW online for more info.
Other Great Events:
September 1 – 7: Art Week Joburg
September 6: Literary Crossroads at The Goethe Institute
September 15 – 18: Jozi Film Festival
September 20 – 24: South African Fashion Week
September 27-28: The Semperoper Ballet in association with The Dance Factory Newtown
What T0 Wear:
If you follow the blog religiously, you’ll have a pretty good idea of what trends to flaunt this Spring. Bohemian inspired styling comes at the perfect time, as we mix and match textured sweaters, flowy maxi skirts and killer shorts. Micropleats are also a great way to express your feminine side this Spring – take a look at this post to see how to style the trend! Opt for nudes and soft tones in terms of colour palettes and make space to indulge in florals and bold prints, as it adds a great touch to your Spring ensembles. Don’t forget your metallics and shiny fabrics for evenings with a cocktail in hand.
