How To Style: Oversized Coats

..."if you can go a whole day without putting your arms in your sleeves, you've made it"

Inspired by menswear silhouettes, the oversized coat is a must-have in your Autumn/Winter arsenal. The oversized look with its bulky appearance can be daunting, but here are a few tips to look more foxy than frumpy in your big coat.

Last week we launched the first How To segment – check it out if you missed it.

1: Belt a blanket or voluminous coat to create a sleeker look. Pair it with simple accessories like flats and a gorge tote and you’re good to go! You can experiment with your favourite belts, so don’t feel limited to the one that comes with your coat.

2: Rock a big coat with your favourite sneakers and a casual day-look underneath to balance out your street style ensemble. I mean, what is classic street style without sporty influences?!

3: Allow your coat to steal all the attention by making it the only statement piece. Go for bright hues like yellows and reds. Too many other elements, and your coat will be drained out by loud accessories. Pairing it with basic black heels and a clutch, will even out the look.

4: Invest in a cape-style coat. Pair it with a crisp blouse and skinnies, or with a mini skirt and elegant pumps. It’s a great all-rounder and the versatility makes it a great companion to any outfit.

5: Be traditional. Like Rich Kid Dorothy Wang says; “if you can go a whole day without putting your arms in your sleeves, you’ve made it”! Draping your coat over your shoulders is chic and very traditional. It will never go out of fashion.
